Rocky Mountain Hardware: Manufacturer Spotlight

The Rocky Mountain Hardware story began in the early 1990’s in the resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho. Mark and Patsy Nickum ran a successful door and window showroom that catered to local architects and contractors specializing in the luxury custom home market, but their clients struggled to find door hardware to meet the demands of their projects.

Holding true to their philosophy of “never saying no” to a client, Mark Nickum decided to help bring his clients visions to life by creating custom bronze hardware. One lever and escutcheon design for their first project soon led to additional designs to fit the needs of other projects, and soon the Nickums decided to turn their full attention to the hardware business. Before long, they had developed the early framework of what would eventually become the Rocky Mountain Hardware product line.

Using art-grade bronze and pairing old-world casting methods with state of the art machining, Rocky Mountain Hardware soon added door accessories, home accessories, cabinet hardware and more to their offering. Today, that offering even includes plumbing and lighting fixtures, tile, and just about any decorative architectural element that may be used in a custom home or hospitality project.

In 2018, Rocky Mountain Hardware launched its 23rd door hardware collection, to pair with over 100 lever/knob designs that are all available in 12 different patina finishes. This extensive offering allows discerning clients to find endless combinations for their project, whether it be contemporary, rustic, traditional, or somewhere in-between.

In addition to this industry-leading catalog offering, Rocky Mountain Hardware continues their “never say no” philosophy by employing a team of engineers and craftsmen that focus entirely on custom designs of just about anything that a client can dream up. Whether its a one of a kind piece or an existing design modified to fit a specific application, the RMH team thrives on the challenge of offering custom products that fit the exact need of a particular project.

All products are proudly still made-to-order in Idaho with that same attention to detail that captured the attention of the Nickum’s first clients. In fact, Rocky Mountain Hardware is one of the few companies in the hardware industry still producing their products in the USA. As a family business, employees are truly invested in the company’s success and dedicated to its loyal clients.

For Rocky Mountain Hardware and their staff, living green is truly a way of life and that extends to all aspects of the company. The production foundry utilizes “zero waste” casting methods that result in no byproduct, and all bronze alloys are certified to be at least 90% post-consumer recycled content. Additionally, their beautiful product catalogs are printed on FSC certified materials.

San Diego Hardware is proud to be a flagship showroom for the Rocky Mountain Hardware brand, and we hope you will take the time to come in and see their beautiful products in person when it’s time to select fixtures for your next project.
